Fiat 500

So pleased Motorbar got hold of several variants of the cool 500; I ordered mine in early January and I'm still waiting for it to arrive!
It's a 1.2 Pop, a few options specified, and if Fiat are selling so many, I wonder where they all are?
I've told my son that the green ones are parked against hedges, the red ones in front of fire stations, white ones park in the snow, and the black ones only come out at night. The yellow ones, of course, are to be found in bowls of custard.

Anyone else having to wait ages for a new car in these times of recession?

Regards,

Aykay.
Commercial Car Rage or Commercial Carnage?

Commercial Car Rage or Commercial Carnage?

Many thanks for your comments, Aykay.

Forum readers might be interested to know that official figures just received by MotorBar show:

* Nine people die every day on UK roads.

* Commercial vehicles (such as trucks, vans, coaches and buses) account for 1 in 5 or 20% of all road deaths.

* What is extremely worrying from the above figures is that commercial vehicles account for only 1.7% of all vehicles on our roads.

These figures take no account of how many of these commercial vehicles could be foreign or the percentage of lorries, vans, coaches, etc. Our personal experience over many years of travelling around the country testing cars is that we have not noticed an excess of commercial vehicles being driven badly. Quite the opposite, in fact. Most examples of bad driving likely to cause an accident have involved cars.

Having said that, many years ago a (drunk?) lorry driver tried to run us off the road and a couple of years ago a coach tried to force us into roadwork bollards after the driver misjudged the conditions. Once through the congestion he overtook dangerously and again tried to force an incident. Two isolated cases that could have resulted in a serious accident. MotorBar supports commercial vehicles going about their business safely and is pleased to see the 'Well Driven' campaign.

Route 66....

....sadly, it's the A66 in Cumbria. They say speed kills; is that SLOW speed? The A66 is a mixture of single and dual carriageways, and almost every day you can see examples of HGVs holding up the flow of traffic by being driven at a rock-steady 40mph, their legal limit on single carriageway roads. The resultant road rage soon has drivers passing rows of vehicles in a highly dangerous manner.
Surely it's time to acknowledge the huge advances in HGV design over the past decades, and increase the limit to 50mph or even 60?

Credit/Debit card purchases at petrol stations

Read this note very carefully. I did not know about the clear button, but I will be pushing the clear button before I swipe my gas or debit card and after just to be safe.

People are getting really desperate due to the constantly rising gas prices.

A friend just told me about something that happened to one of his coworkers.

She used her credit/debit card to purchase gas at the pump (like mo st of us do). She received her receipt like normal.

However, when she checked her statement, there were 2 $50 charges added in addition to her purchase. Upon investigation, she found out that because she did not press the 'clear' button on the pump, the employee inside the store was able to use her card to purchase his/her own gas!

To keep this from happening, after you get your receipt, you must press the 'CLEAR' button or your information will be stored until the next customer inserts their card. Be sure to tell all your friends/family so that this doesn't happen to them!

(**I had never noticed the clear button but I got gas the other day and sure enough it is there. I will be using it from now on....)

Lady Road Testers

Nice to have a lady writing about cars. It's nearly always men. I wondered if Maggie drove all the cars or if the men get to them first!

Good to see MotorBar's full reports instead of the few paras we are so often fobbed off with on other sites. Particularly liked the Ferrari 599 review -- that's on my Christmas list (hint).
